Marvel's writers insult fans by exploiting their online dialogue

In this Bleeding Cool topic, they presented examples from the recent changes in Thor and Captain America, written like a discussion on a message board. And, in which they make the Absorbing Man out to presumably sound like a right-winger who's complaining about feminists spoiling everything. And in Captain America, there's a conversation between a man and his son hinting at the publicity stunt involving the Falcon replacing Steve Rogers, making the dad out to look bad.

But that only proves they knew what they were getting into when they set out to do this in the first place. Even earlier, Geoff Johns pulled a similar trick 5 years ago when he brought Barry Allen back as the Flash, all for commercial reasons, as it's since turned out. Forcing meta-commentary into stories like these only diminishes whatever enjoyment the tale supposedly has, and in this era, it amounts to none.

Thought it would be right up your ally.

I was actually on board for both of these characters until this happened. Now it's a form of bullying the non-compliant.

You should cover the whole Erik Larsen thing.

About me

  • I'm Avi Green
  • From Jerusalem, Israel
  • I was born in Pennsylvania in 1974, and moved to Israel in 1983. I also enjoyed reading a lot of comics when I was young, the first being Fantastic Four. I maintain a strong belief in the public's right to knowledge and accuracy in facts. I like to think of myself as a conservative-style version of Clark Kent. I don't expect to be perfect at the job, but I do my best.
